Working Class Poor

Tenth Anniversary Edition of the Classic Bestseller

I’m reading a frightening and thought provoking book by Barbara Ehrenreich called “Nickel and Dimed”. Back in 1998 she went undercover, living and working, as a working low income employee and writes about her experience. How she is invisible as part of the poor working class. Despite the fact that she is working two minimum wage jobs, seven days a week, she still doesn’t have enough money to make ends meet. Scary to think that it could happen to anyone of us under certain circumstances.

I think every high school should require their seniors to read and write a report regarding this book and her experiences. AND, also make them live on a fictitious budget (perhaps based on their grades) for the school year... At the end of the year have them re-read the book and state how they would change things.

Probably not one of my best ideas.... But I have held two full-time minimum wage jobs while going to school. And, not able to get a whole lot of financial support from my guy, now husband, because he was raising two children without much finical support.

This book offers much insight, even today, to what it is actually like to be part of the working poor class.

Have you read this book? Are you able to relate to it because of your past or present situation? Let me know what your take is on the poor working class.

Celebrate your life!

As I was walking thru the living room I took notice of the light breeze the overhead fan made, and how the sunlight was streaming through the windows and open front door, and how I could hear the neighborhood kids laughing and playing. And, it struck me again, “I love our house”!

Bright and airy
Our house is light, bright and airy. And, if you know me; then you know that is exactly how I am on my good days.

There are aspects of my housing I do not like, and I can say the same of my life. It just isn’t a life that fulfills me with lightness and contentment.

I’ve just recently found the blog of master life coach, Tonya Leigh and she believes in celebrating life. As I was walking thru the living room that is precisely what it felt like… A celebration of living comfortably! I thrive in an environment that is light and bright. And, that is exactly how I want all aspects of my life to be.

It just seems like lately I’ve had more of a closed up and dark outlook on life and that is not my true self. My goal for the rest of this year is to get back to my true self. I’m not sure how I’m going to do this, but I do know it will be a journey of self-discovery or rediscovery. And, that I’m going to make an effort to see the positive (light) side of my life. I’m going to attempt to open up the dark parts and allow light to fill all aspects of my life!

And, today is the first step… I love our house because it is light, bright and airy and it represent the exact description I want people to see when they think of me!

What are you celebrating in your life?

What I wore while touring a local garden

We have a lovely little park behind our house with a fantastic garden. While walking our puppy in the evenings we usually pop in and look at how the plants are blooming and changing.

Camouflaging Allery Eyes with Concealer

Concealer can be considered a wonderful tool in our beauty arsenal. If used properly it can drastically enhance our looks. It can brighten a tired face, cover blemishes and it can totally conceal the effect of allergy eyes. However, many of us find it difficult to apply correctly.

Having seasonal allergies, and the effect this has on my eyes is not pretty. For years I attempted to camouflage my dark circles and red rimmed eyes. I would apply concealer and it seemed to just emphasis everything I wanted to cover or camouflage.

Without any makeup.
Close-up of red allergy eyes.
Standard practice was to apply the concealer under the eye... directly on top of the dark circles.

This never worked for me...
Then one day I stumbled onto a tutorial on how to wear concealer the modern way and it was like the heavens opened up and the angels started to sing. Well, perhaps it wasn’t all that but it has most certainly made a difference.

I know I wasn’t the only woman who found concealer daunting and/or ineffective. But, once you know the basics and try the application process below, you'll find concealer may be your best beauty purchase to date. In fact, you may skip foundation completely.

Basically, it takes only seconds to perfect.

You apply the concealer in a triangle shapeand blend it down into your check area and up into your brow bone area. And, an additional tip for the red rimmed eyes that allergies cause... use a flesh toned eye pencil and line the rim of the eyes.

Easy peasy!

Here is a new way verse old way.
